Maha Ashtami: CM Mohan Majhi Visits Durga Puja Pandals In Bhubaneswar

Accompanied by some senior BJP leaders, the Chief Minister visited Durga Puja pandals at Pratapnagari, Balikuda, Sikharpur, Chauliaganj etc.  in the silver city. He reportedly visited more than 30 Paja pandals here and paid obeisance to Maa Durga.

“I sought the blessings of Maa Durga for the wellbeing of the people across the State,” the Chief Minister said.

On Friday, the Chief Minister along with his wife and other senior BJP leaders visited several Puja Mandaps at Nayapalli, Patnasahi, Baramunda, Rasulgarh, Saheed Nagar, Rasulgarh etc. in Bhubaneswar Bhubaneswar and offered puja to Goddess there.

The Odisha government yesterday decided to waive off government rent for all Durga Puja pandals across the State.

The famous Durga Puja is celebrated in Odisha and different parts of the country as a victory of good over evil and Maa Durga is considered as a symbol of shakti.

The festival commenced in Odisha on Thursday with all rituals and festive spirit. It will continue till Sunday, 13th October.

Devotees are seen worshiping Goddess Durga, in different ‘Shakti Peethas’ and puja pandals across the state.

In a letter addressed to Chief Secretaries of states and Union Territories, NCPCR Chairman Priyank Kanoongo also advised that non-Muslim children currently enrolled in madrasas be moved to mainstream schools, in line with the Right to Education (RTE) Act of 2009.

The recommendations are based on a comprehensive report prepared after studying the educational conditions of children from the Muslim community.

According to Kanoongo, this report is aimed at creating a road map for ensuring that all children in India grow up in a safe and productive environment, ultimately contributing to national development.

“The report is prepared with an aim to guide us toward creating a comprehensive road map that ensures all children across the country grow up in a safe, healthy, and productive environment. By doing so, they will be empowered to contribute meaningfully to the nation-building process in a more holistic and impactful way,” the letter said.

Talking to IANS, Priyank Kanoongo said, “The commission has studied this issue for the past nine years and researched how children from the Muslim community are deprived of school education due to madrasas, detailing the violations of their rights. We have sent a report on this matter to the Chief Secretaries via letter and requested them to close the Madrasa Boards in their respective states. These Madrasa Boards have failed to serve the purpose for which they were established.”

“Currently, there are still over 1.25 crore children in madrasas with no connection to the Madrasa Boards. The Madrasa Boards are merely receiving government funding while accommodating 1.9 to 2 million children, including non-Muslim Hindu children, to create an illusion of educational support,” he further told IANS.

The NCPCR, established under the Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act of 2005, is tasked with safeguarding the rights of children across India.

Briefing about the initiative, S Dev Datta Singh, Commissioner of Police, said that the project includes 1,000 CCTV surveillance systems, drone cameras and police personnel to effectively manage the crowd and traffic as well as prevent crimes at the Durga Puja pandals.

S Dev Datta Singh said that extra police personnel will be deployed in the pandals, those attract more crowds compared to other pandals.

Speaking to media persons, DCP Pinak Mishra said that the police personnel will be keeping tabs on these things 24x7 from control room.

"Our team will be alert for quick response to emergency calls. Crowd management, traffic regulation and vigilance on thieves, pickpockets and snatchers will be our prime focus,” stated Pinak Mishra. 

He also said that, if the 'Operation Tribhuj' succeeds, then it will be implemented on a larger scale during major events and festivals.

'Shakti Bahini' Introduced

The 'Operation Tribhuj' followed the introduction of 'Shakti Bahini'.

'Shakti Bahini' is an initiative which sees a special patrolling team consists of 40 women police personnel to ensure safety of women and children during the ongoing Durga Puja in the Capital City.

The 40 members of the special team have been given 20 bikes to help them do their jobs smoothly. The ‘Shakti Bahini’ initiative was flagged off by S Dev Datta Singh. 

According to the Commissionerate Police, the special team will focus on women and children indulged in snatching and thefts during Durga Puja. 

Police have said that the patrolling teams will be deployed near Durga Puja pandals as well as near crowded places in Bhubaneswar. In addition, the Commissionerate Police has urged the people to "help and cooperate the police" for a smooth Durga Puja festival.
