Vientiane, Oct 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asserted that conflicts in the world cannot be solved by battlefield but by respecting sovereignty, territorial integrity and international laws.

Addressing the 19th East Asia Summit, PM Modi said: "The countries of the Global South are facing the most negative impact of the conflicts in different regions of the world. Everyone wants restoration of peace and stability as soon as possible whether it is Eurasia or West Asia."

Denouncing battle to solve the conflicts, he said: "I come from the land of the Buddha, and I have said repeatedly that this is not an age for war. Keeping a humanitarian perspective, dialogue and diplomacy must be given priority."

He said: "Our approach should be of evolution and not expansionism".

Expressing condolence to the victims of Typhoon Yagi, he said: "We have provided humanitarian assistance through Operation Sadbhav.

He also highlighted that peace, security and stability of the South China Sea are in the interest of the entire Indo-Pacific region.

Advocating for maritime activities under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), he suggested a strong and effective Code of Conduct that does not impose restrictions on the foreign policy of regional countries.

On the Myanmar situation, he said that India supports the ASEAN approach to the situation in Myanmar and assured that as a neighbouring country, "we will continue to fulfil its responsibilities."

He emphasised maintaining humanitarian assistance and appropriate steps to restore democracy. "We believe that, for this, Myanmar must be engaged, not isolated."

PM Modi also called upon forces that believe in humanity to combat terrorism, a serious challenge to global peace and security.

He also sought to strengthen cooperation in the areas of cyber, maritime and space.

Informing about fulfilling the commitment of Nalanda University's revival, he invited the countries at the summit to attend the Heads of Higher Education Conclave to be held in Nalanda in June.

The next East Asia Summit will be held in Malaysia.

India's Foreign Exchange Reserves See USD 3.7 Billion Dip After Scaling All-Time High

Mumbai, Oct 11: India's foreign exchange reserves dipped USD 3.7 billion to USD 701.18 billion as of October 4 after scaling all-time high, according to data released by Reserve Bank of India on Friday.

In the week ending on September 27, the forex reserves kitty rose USD 12.588 billion to USD 704.885 billion.

The reserves fell after having risen by nearly USD 35 billion in the last seven weeks.

This buffer of foreign exchange reserves helps insulate domestic economic activity from global shocks.

According to the latest data from the apex bank, India's foreign currency assets (FCA), the largest component of forex reserves, were at USD 612.643 billion.

The gold reserves are worth USD 65.756 billion, as per Friday's data.

As per estimates, India's foreign exchange reserves are now sufficient to cover over a year of projected imports.

In the calendar year 2023, India added about USD 58 billion to its foreign exchange reserves.

In contrast, India's forex reserves saw a cumulative decline of USD 71 billion in 2022. Forex reserves, or foreign exchange reserves (FX reserves), are assets held by a nation's central bank or monetary authority.

Foreign exchange reserves are generally held in reserve currencies, typically the US Dollar and, to a lesser extent, the Euro, Japanese Yen, and Pound Sterling.

The RBI closely monitors the foreign exchange markets and intervenes only to maintain orderly market conditions, aiming to contain excessive volatility in the exchange rate without reference to any pre-determined target level or band.

The RBI frequently intervenes in the market through liquidity management, including the sale of dollars, to prevent a steep depreciation of the rupee.

The RBI has been strategically buying dollars when the rupee is strong and selling when it is weak.

A less volatile rupee makes Indian assets more attractive to investors, as they can expect better performance with more predictability. (ANI)

Janhvi Kapoor Shot In ‘Life Threatening’ Situations For ‘Devara: Part 1’

Mumbai, Oct 11: Actress Janhvi Kapoor was in life threatening situations while shooting for the song “Chuttamale” from the Jr. NTR-starrer “Devara: Part 1”.

Janhvi took to Instagram, where she shared some throwback moments from her shoot schedule in Thailand. She shared that she shot for the popular track in a jellyfish filled water. The actress also shared several moments from the shoot.

In a video, the actress shared a behind-the-scenes moment from the song “Chuttamale” and was heard saying: “This might be the most life threatening moment… I am going into jellyfish infested waters. Nothing but a thin silk saree to protect me. I hope I survive, I hope it is worth it. I hope it is a memorable shot.”

In another slide, she showcased the “beware” sign as the water is infested with Jellyfish, whose stinging cells in their tentacles can injure humans.

In one clip, the actress was seen talking about climbing “really sharp rock” and then coming to the dangerous waters. The clips were of the shoot, the actress making sand-castles, going to the location in a jetty and taking a selfie with Janvi making a funny face at the camera.

For the caption, she wrote: “Too late for some #Chuttamale BTS? I think not.”

Talking about the next part of the movie, filmmaker Koratala Siva it will feature the actress more.

He said: "She can bring plenty of freshness into the movie and have multiple dimensions to her character which will be unfolded in part 2. There is a lot of drama for her and surprising twists &amp; turns that could happen with her character.

"You will have to wait and watch part 2 to see more of Janhvi!" Siva said.

Talking about "Devara: Part 1", the film also stars Saif Ali Khan, Shruti Marathe, Prakash Raj, Srikanth, Shine Tom Chacko, Narain, Kalaiyarasan and Murali Sharma. (IANS)
