New Delhi, Oct 11: Glenn Maxwell will make his red-ball return in Cricket Australia's Second XI four-day competition, as part of Victoria's 12-man squad facing Queensland at Junction Oval starting Monday.

This will be Maxwell's first four-day match in over a year as he prepares for a possible spot in Australia's Test tour of Sri Lanka early next year.

However, Maxwell is unlikely to participate in Victoria's next Sheffield Shield match October 20, just three days after the Second XI game ends.

This Shield match will feature some of Australia's Test players, including Steven Smith, Nathan Lyon, and Mitchell Starc, with Scott Boland also expected to return.

The Second XI competition rules allow for 12 players to participate, with 11 batting and 11 bowling, enabling player rotation over the four days.

Maxwell's workload is being carefully managed following a serious leg injury two years ago. Maxwell, who turns 36 on the first day of the match, has played only two first-class matches in the past five years.

Maxwell is expected to play the one-day domestic match against New South Wales on October 25, which might include Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.

However, he is unlikely to be available for Victoria's third or fourth Shield rounds, which coincide with Australia's ODI and T20I series against Pakistan.

Maxwell could be available for Victoria's fifth and sixth Shield games before the BBL begins, likely playing at least one of those.

Victoria faces Queensland on November 24 at the Gabba in a pink-ball game, then hosts Queensland at the MCG on December 6.

Australia's selectors might also give Maxwell a chance in a two-day pink-ball Prime Minister's XI game against India in Canberra starting on November 30.

Maxwell is a strong contender for Australia's Test tour of Sri Lanka due to his subcontinent experience.

He was part of the 2022 Sri Lanka tour and nearly played the first Test in Galle, valued for his spin-bowling and batting abilities in spin-friendly conditions.

Maxwell has played all seven of his Test matches in the subcontinent, with the last one in Bangladesh in 2017. Although the conditions in Shield cricket differ greatly from those in Sri Lanka, Maxwell and Australia's selectors see value in him playing red-ball cricket for physical conditioning.

Victoria has also named state captain Will Sutherland for the Second XI game as he continues to recover from a serious back injury, bowling under restrictions.

India's Foreign Exchange Reserves See USD 3.7 Billion Dip After Scaling All-Time High

Mumbai, Oct 11: India's foreign exchange reserves dipped USD 3.7 billion to USD 701.18 billion as of October 4 after scaling all-time high, according to data released by Reserve Bank of India on Friday.

In the week ending on September 27, the forex reserves kitty rose USD 12.588 billion to USD 704.885 billion.

The reserves fell after having risen by nearly USD 35 billion in the last seven weeks.

This buffer of foreign exchange reserves helps insulate domestic economic activity from global shocks.

According to the latest data from the apex bank, India's foreign currency assets (FCA), the largest component of forex reserves, were at USD 612.643 billion.

The gold reserves are worth USD 65.756 billion, as per Friday's data.

As per estimates, India's foreign exchange reserves are now sufficient to cover over a year of projected imports.

In the calendar year 2023, India added about USD 58 billion to its foreign exchange reserves.

In contrast, India's forex reserves saw a cumulative decline of USD 71 billion in 2022. Forex reserves, or foreign exchange reserves (FX reserves), are assets held by a nation's central bank or monetary authority.

Foreign exchange reserves are generally held in reserve currencies, typically the US Dollar and, to a lesser extent, the Euro, Japanese Yen, and Pound Sterling.

The RBI closely monitors the foreign exchange markets and intervenes only to maintain orderly market conditions, aiming to contain excessive volatility in the exchange rate without reference to any pre-determined target level or band.

The RBI frequently intervenes in the market through liquidity management, including the sale of dollars, to prevent a steep depreciation of the rupee.

The RBI has been strategically buying dollars when the rupee is strong and selling when it is weak.

A less volatile rupee makes Indian assets more attractive to investors, as they can expect better performance with more predictability. (ANI)

Janhvi Kapoor Shot In ‘Life Threatening’ Situations For ‘Devara: Part 1’

Mumbai, Oct 11: Actress Janhvi Kapoor was in life threatening situations while shooting for the song “Chuttamale” from the Jr. NTR-starrer “Devara: Part 1”.

Janhvi took to Instagram, where she shared some throwback moments from her shoot schedule in Thailand. She shared that she shot for the popular track in a jellyfish filled water. The actress also shared several moments from the shoot.

In a video, the actress shared a behind-the-scenes moment from the song “Chuttamale” and was heard saying: “This might be the most life threatening moment… I am going into jellyfish infested waters. Nothing but a thin silk saree to protect me. I hope I survive, I hope it is worth it. I hope it is a memorable shot.”

In another slide, she showcased the “beware” sign as the water is infested with Jellyfish, whose stinging cells in their tentacles can injure humans.

In one clip, the actress was seen talking about climbing “really sharp rock” and then coming to the dangerous waters. The clips were of the shoot, the actress making sand-castles, going to the location in a jetty and taking a selfie with Janvi making a funny face at the camera.

For the caption, she wrote: “Too late for some #Chuttamale BTS? I think not.”

Talking about the next part of the movie, filmmaker Koratala Siva it will feature the actress more.

He said: "She can bring plenty of freshness into the movie and have multiple dimensions to her character which will be unfolded in part 2. There is a lot of drama for her and surprising twists &amp; turns that could happen with her character.

"You will have to wait and watch part 2 to see more of Janhvi!" Siva said.

Talking about "Devara: Part 1", the film also stars Saif Ali Khan, Shruti Marathe, Prakash Raj, Srikanth, Shine Tom Chacko, Narain, Kalaiyarasan and Murali Sharma. (IANS)
