Sonepur, Apr 18: A youth, who was critically injured in a late-night firing incident in Odisha’s Sonepur district, succumbed to his injuries today while undergoing treatment.
According to reports, the incident took place around 11 pm on Friday night when the victim, identified as Bikram Maharana of Champamal village, was sitting with a group of youths. Meanwhile, he was shot at by some unidentified person.
Following the incident, Bikram collapsed immediately. He was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital. As his condition worsened, doctors referred him to the District Headquarters Hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival.
The shooting occurred barely 200 meters from Biramaharajpur police station, near the Sub-Collector’s office square, leaving one youth dead.

While the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, though no arrests have been reported yet.
Speaking to reporters, Bikram’s father expressed shock and grief, stating: “I don’t know what happened. My son was called out by his friends and never returned. I don’t know who killed him or why.”
Authorities are expected to intensify security measures and probe deeper into the case to uncover the reasons behind the fatal shooting.
