Rourkela, Mar 30: A woman Maoist cadre has surrendered before the Rourkela Police, marking another step in the state’s ongoing efforts to curb left-wing extremism.
The surrendered cadre, identified as Mongdi Honhaga, was reportedly active in the Chhota Nagara police station area along the Odisha–Jharkhand border, a region known for Maoist activity.
Police sources confirmed that Honhaga was part of the Maoist organization’s Anmol team, a unit engaged in violent operations. She was associated with the Katagiri B division of the group and has four criminal cases registered against her, including incidents of loot and IED blasts. Honhaga joined the Maoist outfit in 2024 and had been operating in the border areas since then.
Her surrender is seen as a major success for the Rourkela Police, who have been intensifying efforts to encourage Maoists to abandon violence and reintegrate into society.

Western Range DIG Brijesh Rai stated that the Odisha government has a comprehensive rehabilitation policy for surrendered Maoists. Those who lay down arms are provided with financial assistance, vocational training, and other facilities to help them return to mainstream life.
Authorities believe that Honhaga’s decision will inspire other cadres to follow suit, thereby weakening Maoist influence in the region. The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring peace and development in Odisha’s border districts, emphasizing that the government’s support will be extended to all who choose the path of reform.
