Bhubaneswar, Mar 30: Amid prevailing heat, humidity and sporadic cloudy conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast thunderstorms with rain and gusty winds across Odisha for the next five days due to an active cyclonic circulation over north Odisha and adjoining areas.

The IMD issued a Yellow Warning for the next 24 hours for Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts, where light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph is likely at isolated places.

Thunderstorm activity with lightning and rain is expected to continue till April 2, with a Yellow Warning in place for several districts during this period.

Meanwhile, heat conditions persist across the state. Three cities recorded temperatures of 39°C, while Titlagarh crossed 40°C, with western Odisha reeling under intense heatwave conditions.

The IMD projected a further rise in temperature by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. With temperatures already hovering above 40°C, mercury levels may touch 42°C to 43°C in parts of the state within the next two days.

March 30–31 Forecast:
Yellow Warning is issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Koraput and Malkangiri districts for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph).

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri. Dry weather is expected elsewhere.

March 31–April 1 Forecast:
Yellow Warning is issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati districts with lightning and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph.
Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely at a few places in south Odisha and at isolated places in north Odisha.

April 1–2 Forecast:
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati districts.
Yellow Warning continues for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) over these districts.

The IMD advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorm activity and take necessary precautions against lightning and strong winds.
