Nilagiri, Jan 31: A class 9th student from Podashul village under Nilagiri police station narrowly escaped death after a fierce encounter with a wild bear.
The incident has sparked fear among villagers as two bears from the Swarnachuda forest have been roaming in search of food and creating panic in the area.
On Saturday morning, the student, identified as Prabhat, was suddenly attacked by one of the bears near his home. Displaying remarkable courage, Prabhat fought back with bare hands to save his life.
Witnesses said he struck the bear repeatedly, managing to fend off the animal despite sustaining serious injuries.
The struggle lasted nearly five minutes, during which Prabhat suffered multiple wounds.
Villagers rushed to his aid and immediately shifted him to Nilagiri Medical Centre, where he is undergoing treatment.
The student remains critical, though his condition is stable, according to doctors.
