Bhubaneswar, Jan. 31: In a landmark initiative aimed at

said on Saturday.
The service, exclusively designed for women passengers, will
be operated by women drivers, marking a significant step towards gender
empowerment in public transport.
Speaking to media persons, Urban Development Minister
Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said that the buses will prioritize women’s safety
and comfort. “The Subhadra Bus will be a dedicated service for women, driven by
trained women drivers. It is a step towards creating safer and more inclusive
urban transport,” he stated.
As part of the preparation, selected women drivers from
Bhubaneswar have undergone training in Pune to handle the vehicles and manage
passenger safety protocols. The buses will be equipped with modern safety
features, including surveillance cameras and emergency response systems, to
ensure a secure commuting experience.

women to use public transport, reduce dependence on private vehicles, and
promote gender equality in the workforce. The service also reflects the state
government’s broader commitment to women-centric policies and urban mobility
reforms.
The introduction of Subhadra Bus is being seen as a
progressive move that could serve as a model for other cities in Odisha and
across India. With women at the wheel and safety at the core, Bhubaneswar is
poised to set a new benchmark in inclusive public transport.
