Dhenkanal, Mar 6: A 55-year-old man was killed after a speeding truck crashed into his house at Hatibari village in Dhenkanal district last last night.

The deceased has been identified as Atira Tarai (55).

According to reports, the mishap occurred at around 1:20 a.m. when a truck (registration JH05DL 3607) travelling from Mandar towards Joranda lost control. The vehicle first struck a tractor parked beside the house. The impact pushed the tractor against the building, causing a section of the wall to collapse.

Following the incident, Tarai got trapped under the debris of the fallen wall.

Villagers immediately rushed to his help and alerted the authorities about the incident.

Upon being informed, Gandia police and fire service personnel arrived the scene and carried out rescue operations.

The incident has raised concerns among locals about reckless driving and road safety in the region. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the truck losing balance. Meanwhile, the accident has left the community shaken, highlighting the vulnerability of roadside homes to such sudden mishaps.
