Bhubaneswar, Mar 6: A sweet shop owner sustained critical injuries in a deadly attack in Samantarapur under the jurisdiction of Lingaraj police station late Thursday evening.

According to reports, the incident took place following a heated argument over the purchase of sweets. The argument soon turned ugly after three youths attacked the shopkeeper, leaving him critically injured.

The victim was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he remains under intensive medical care.

On being informed, Police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the matter, suspecting that the attack may have been fueled by longstanding enmity rather than a spontaneous quarrel.

Sources revealed that the shop owner has a controversial past, with serious criminal cases—including charges of murder—pending against him. This background has led investigators to explore whether the assault was a continuation of earlier disputes.

Local residents expressed shock at the incident, noting that such violent episodes have created an atmosphere of fear in the area.
