Bhubaneswar, Mar 20: Odisha has come under the grip of severe Kalbaisakhi conditions, as heavy rains and thunderstorms sweep across large parts of the state.
The Regional Meteorological Centre has cautioned that the turbulent weather pattern will persist for the next two days, bringing with it strong winds, lightning, and the risk of flooding in several districts.
The weather department has also issued an orange alert for six districts-Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj-where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the next 24 hours. These districts are likely to face strong winds, lightning, and localized flooding.

In addition, a yellow alert has been declared for 13 other districts, warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. The weather department has cautioned that wind speeds may reach 50-60 km/h, posing risks to standing crops, power lines, and weak structures.
Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid sheltering under trees, and take necessary precautions against lightning strikes. Farmers have been advised to safeguard harvested crops and livestock, while urban residents are warned of possible waterlogging in low-lying areas.
