Cuttack, Apr 8: The JMFC Court in Cuttack has granted Karnataka Police permission to take dreaded criminal Raja Sahanai on a seven‑day remand, from April 9 to April 15, for interrogation in connection with a high‑profile jewellery heist.
Raja, who had earlier escaped from Choudwar Jail, is accused of masterminding a daring robbery in Hunsur town of Mysuru district, Karnataka, on December 28, 2025. During this, Raja and his associates allegedly stormed a jewellery shop at gunpoint and looted ornaments worth nearly Rs 10 crore.
According to sources, Karnataka Police will use the remand period to question Raja about the planning, execution, and network behind the robbery, as well as to identify his accomplices.
The investigation is expected to shed light on whether Raja was involved in other crimes following his jailbreak.
The court has directed that once the remand period concludes, Raja must be returned to Choudwar Circle Jail in Cuttack.

Meanwhile, Commissionerate Police is reportedly making arrangements to house him in a high‑security prison to prevent any further escape attempts.
Notably, Sahani (39), a native of Lohianagar in Bihar’s Begusarai district, had escaped from Choudwar jail. Following his escape, the dreaded criminal frequently changed his locations to evade arrest.
After fleeing Odisha, he moved across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh, operating under aliases such as Kamlesh Pandey and Subham. However, Sahani was apprehended by a special team of the Commissionerate police from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand.
