Bhubaneswar, Sep 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert indicating the likely formation of a low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours.
According to the latest update by the weather agency, the system is expected to intensify and move west-northwestward, potentially developing into a depression by September 26, with landfall forecast along the South Odisha–North Andhra Pradesh coast on September 27.
Under its influence, Odisha is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 30–40 km/h, across multiple districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Koraput, Rayagada, and Kandhamal, said the IMD official.

In light of the developing system, the IMD has issued a strict advisory for fishermen operating in the Bay of Bengal and along the Odisha coast. All marine workers have been urged to return to shore by September 24 to avoid hazardous sea conditions.
District administrations have also been placed on alert, and disaster response teams are being mobilised to prepare for potential flooding, waterlogging, and disruption to transport and daily life.
