Bhubaneswar, October 22: A disturbing development has emerged following the recent bust of a sex trafficking racket in Bhubaneswar’s Laxmisagar area. A minor girl, who was rescued and admitted to a local hospital, has tested HIV positive, prompting serious public health and legal concerns.
The 16-year-old victim, a native of Jharkhand, was allegedly trafficked and pushed into the flesh trade in the city. She along with nine other young women were rescued following a raid conducted by the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police.
The operation was launched after reports of sexual assault involving the minor surfaced, leading to the exposure of a larger trafficking network operating from a residential property.
Following the medical diagnosis, police have intensified their investigation and are now working to identify and trace all individuals who may have been involved as clients.
Authorities have announced plans to conduct HIV testing for all suspected clients linked to the racket.
