Jharsuguda, Apr 22: The Odisha Vigilance Department has arrested the clerk of the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,500.

The accused clerk has been identified as A K Guru and the money was reportedly demanded for processing a student’s certificate.

According to reports, a six-member Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Guru red-handed while he was receiving the bribe. He has since been detained at the Vigilance office, where he is being interrogated.

Following the arrest, the Vigilance team conducted a raid at Guru’s residence near Laxmi Narayan College in Jharsuguda. During the search, officials examined various documents to gather further evidence.

This incident has sparked discussions about corruption in public offices, particularly in healthcare institutions where citizens often face harassment for essential services.

Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against the accused, and further investigation is underway to determine if more officials are involved.
