Jharsuguda, Feb 22: Five police personnel were killed while three others sustained critical injuries after a speeding trailer collided head-on with a police Bolero vehicle in Jharsuguda.
The deceased have been identified as Kashiram Bhoi (APR), Niranjan Kujur (Drill Sub-Inspector), Debadatta Sahu (APR), Lingaraj Dhurua (APR Havildar) and Bhaktabandhu Mirdha (Home Guard).
According to reports, the incident occurred when the police officials were out on night patrolling. Meanwhile, the trailer, moving recklessly from the opposite direction, rammed into the Bolero.
The impact was so severe that the police vehicle was completely mangled.
Local residents, along with police officials, rushed to the spot to rescue the victims.
The bodies of the deceased officers were recovered from the wreckage, while the injured were immediately shifted to medical care.
