Farmer Trampled To Death By Wild Elephant In Khordha

Approximately 20 to 25 wild elephants have long been inhabiting the Tangi forest range.

Khordha, Oct 12: A tragic incident unfolded in Bhobara village of Badapari council of Tangi range of Khordha district, where a 50-year-old farmer, Manmath Pradhan, was trampled to death by a wild elephant early Sunday morning.

According to reports, Manmath had stepped out of his house to relieve himself near his backyard farm when a wild elephant, lurking nearby, suddenly attacked him. The elephant reportedly crushed him before retreating into the nearby forest.


Approximately 20 to 25 wild elephants have long been inhabiting the Tangi forest range and around 4–5 elephants have been frequently roaming the Badapari forest and surrounding villages, causing panic among residents, especially during evening hours.

Locals have expressed frustration over the lack of preventive measures by the forest department, alleging that negligence has led to the loss of life.

Following the incident, Tangi police arrived at the scene to manage the situation and calm the distressed community. Meanwhile, the bereaved family has appealed to the government for financial assistance and support.
