Tangi, Nov 8: Tension gripped the Abhayapur Chhak area on Saturday as hundreds of locals blocked Tangi-Kapilas road demanding compensation following the death of an elderly man in an elephant attack.

The victim, identified as Batakrishna Behera from Abhayapur village, was returning home when he was trampled by a wild elephant on Friday.

He was rushed to SCB Medical College in Cuttack in critical condition, but was declared dead on arrival.

In response to the incident, villagers gathered at the Abhayapur junction and blocked the Tangi-Kapilas road, demanding Rs 50 lakh in compensation for the bereaved family.

Following the protest, vehicles remain stranded for hours.

The incident has reignited concerns over human-wildlife conflict in the region, with locals urging the government to take stronger measures to prevent such tragedies and provide timely support to affected families.
