Bhubaneswar, Apr 22: With intense heatwave conditions sweeping across Odisha, Collectors of 13 districts, including Nabarangpur, have issued to close all government and private schools until further notice.

According to an official letter (No. 6938 dated 18.04.26) from the Nabarangpur District Collector, all schools in the district will remain closed due to the prevailing extreme temperatures. The order states that the closure will continue until new instructions are issued.

Similar directives have been given by other district collectors in regions severely affected by the heatwave.

The state’s School and Mass Education Minister clarified that the State Relief Commissioner (SRC) has not yet convened a meeting to decide on statewide summer vacations. However, district collectors have been empowered to take precautionary measures in areas experiencing extreme heat.

Authorities have indicated that a broader decision on summer holidays across the state will be taken after reviewing the evolving weather conditions.

For now, the early closure of schools in heatwave-hit districts is expected to provide relief to children and parents, while ensuring safety during this period of rising temperatures.
