Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: The cold wave has tightened its grip across Odisha, with temperatures dipping by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in several cities. Moreover, the Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast that the chill will persist until January 17, with mercury levels expected to fall further in the coming days.
According to IMD, the chill is likely to intensify as mercury levels continue to fall. However, from January 18 onwards, the influence of western disturbances is expected to bring some relief, leading to a gradual rise in temperatures and easing the cold wave conditions, said the weather agency.
In view of the prevailing situation, a yellow warning has also been issued for the next 24 hours across 11 districts of the state. These include Khordha, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, and Kandhamal.
Residents in these districts have been advised to take precautions against the biting cold, particularly vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.

The cold wave has disrupted daily life in many areas, with reports of people resorting to bonfires and warm clothing to cope with the chill. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious until conditions improve after January 18.
