Bhubaneswar, Feb 28: In a shocking incident, the home of a serving Coast Guard officer in Pokhariput here was burgled late Friday evening. The officer, identified as Chandu S. Raj, reported that two gold chains and Rs 60,000 in cash have been stolen.

The suspected perpetrator is believed to be an air-conditioning mechanic who had previously visited the house for repair work.

According to the complaint lodged at the Airport Police Station, the burglary took place when the officer and his family were away. Upon returning, they discovered valuables missing. The stolen items included two gold chains, each weighing approximately 20 grams, and cash amounting to Rs 60,000.

The officer immediately reported the matter to the police, who registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the suspect may be an air-conditioning mechanic who had access to the house during maintenance work.

Police sources revealed that the mechanic was familiar with the layout of the residence and may have exploited this knowledge to commit the crime.

Investigators are now tracing his whereabouts and examining CCTV footage from nearby areas.

“We are probing all angles and verifying the suspect’s background. Evidence from the crime scene is being examined,” said a senior officer from Airport Police Station.
