CNG Tanker Overturns In Angul, Triggers Panic Among Locals

Angul, Feb 14: A major mishap was averted as a CNG tanker overturned on way to Paradip from Jharsuguda  near College Chhak under Jarapada police limits.

According to reports, the tanker was carrying more than 400 kilograms of compressed natural gas at the time of the mishap.

The driver and helper of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the accident. The sudden overturning of the tanker raised concerns among locals due to the highly flammable nature of CNG.

Following the incident, panic spread in the area as residents feared a possible explosion.

On being informed, Jarapada Police, along with the Fire Department, rushed to the spot to secure the vehicle and prevent any untoward incident.

Firefighters and police personnel worked together to carefully lift and remove the tanker from the accident site, ensuring safety protocols were followed.

Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported, but the incident highlighted the risks associated with transporting hazardous materials on busy routes. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident and to trace the absconding driver and helper.

In another incident in Sonepur district, a Bolero pickup collided head‑on with a tractor near Mahadevpali village under Binika police limits.

According to reports, the tractor was travelling towards Sansamura, while the Bolero pickup, loaded with garlic from Bargarh, was coming from the opposite direction. Meanwhile, the two vehicles collided with each other.

The collision left two people critically injured.

Witnesses said that immediately after the accident, the Bolero pickup driver fled the scene. The injured were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors confirmed that one of them was in extremely critical condition. The victim was later shifted to Burla Hospital for advanced treatment.

Police have registered the case and are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
