According to reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday on the Talabania Bhudan Road, which passes through the Balukhanda Sanctuary in Puri, when a herd of deer was crossing the road. One deer was struck by the vehicle, which fled immediately after the collision.
Local residents rushed to the spot and rescued the injured animal. They contacted the nearby veterinary hospital for urgent medical assistance. However, frustration grew when they discovered that the hospital gates were still closed at 7 a.m. and that doctors would only arrive around 8:30 to 9 a.m. By then, the deer had already suffered severe injuries to its back and leg, raising concerns about its survival without immediate treatment.
