Digapahandi, Mar 5: One person was killed while two others sustained critical injuries after a motorcycle collided head-on with a scooter near the Digapahandi petrol pump in Ganjam district.
The deceased has been identified as Shiba Gouda, a resident of Satapentha Gopalpur in the Sanakhemundi area while two others- Shyam Gouda of S. Gopalpur village and Chandra Nayak of Gopinathpur village under K. Nuagaon police station with critical injuries have been admitted to nearby hospital.
Eyewitnesses stated that the accident occurred due to a head-on collision between the two vehicles, though the exact cause is yet to be determined. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
In a another incident, a motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a speeding truck. Following the incident, enraged locals blocked National Highway 149 in protest.
The deceased has been identified as Biranchi Pradhan of Karadakhman village.

According to reports, Biranchi worked as a security guard at a khamar (farm). He was on his way to work on his bike when a truck, moving at high speed, rammed into him. The impact was so severe that his leg was severed, and he was dragged for nearly 500 meters, leading to his death on the spot.
The accident triggered strong outrage among villagers. In protest, locals set tires on fire and blocked NH-149, causing long queues of vehicles on both sides of the highway.
Police from Khamar station reached the spot and are trying to pacify the agitated crowd and restore normalcy.
