These officers were transferred after the ECI, during its visit to Maharashtra from September 26 to 28, expressed serious displeasure over the state government's non-compliance with its directives relating to the transfers of government officers and police personnel who had completed three-year tenure and those stationed in the same district for a long.

These transfers were made ahead of the Election Commission of India's (ECI) announcement on the state Assembly election schedule on Tuesday.

State Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik and State Director General of Police Rashi Shukla assured that they would comply with the poll pannel's directive.

As per the transfer order, the state government has transferred Home Department's Joint Secretary Vyankatesh Bhat to the Industry, Energy, Labour and Mining Department; Revenue and Forest Department Joint Secretary Atul Kide to Planning Department, Water Resources Department Joint Secretary Uddhav Dahiphale to the Energy, Labour and Mining Department; Industry, Energy, Labour and Mining Department Joint Secretaries Sanjay Degavkar and Prashant Badgering to Public Work Department and Home Department respectively.

Cooperation, Marketing and Textile Department Joint Secretary Santosh Khorgade has been transferred to the Higher and Technical Education Department; Chief Minister's Office Joint Secretary Kailas Bilonikar to Water Resources Department and School Education Minister's Office Joint Secretary Mangesh Shinde to Schools Education and Sports Department.

Further, the Deputy Secretary in the Higher and Technical Departments Satish Tidke has been transferred to the Cooperation; Marketing and Textile Department; Deputy Secretary in the Home Department Sunil Tumbare to the General Administration Department and Rural Development Department Deputy Secretary Pandit Jadhav to the Home Department.

The deputy secretaries in the Chief Minister's Office Sachin Sahasrabudhe, Chandrashekhar Tarange and Manojkumar Mahale have been transferred to Rural Development Department, Home Department and Revenue and Forest Department respectively.

Meanwhile, the state government has also transferred 24 Under Secretaries from various departments.

As per reports, eight students had decided to go bathing in the Pench canal. These students lived in the Indira Gandhi Hostel at Ghoti Chowki in Bori and attended the Indira Gandhi Vidyamandir and Junior College, located about 10 kilometres from Ramtek on Tumsar Road in the district. However, of the eight students, four drowned.

The four students who drowned have been identified as Mandeep Avinash Patil, a Class 11 student, Anant Yogesh Sambare, a Class 7 student, Mayank Kunal Meshram from Class 8, and Mayur Khushal Bangre, a student of Class 9. Their bodies are yet to be recovered as a search operation is underway.

Most of the students living in the hostel had gone to their native villages due to continuous holidays on Dussehra, Sunday and Dhammachakra Pravartan Day. Only a few children were staying at the hostel when the incident happened. The unfortunate event occurred when eight of all the students who stayed in the hostel decided to go bathing in the Pench Canal which flows behind their school, Indira Gandhi Vidyamandir. The fun plan, however, turned out a life-ending decision for them.

Initially, five students jumped into the canal. Misjudging the flow of the water, all five began to get swept away. One student managed to survive, but four were carried away by the strong current. Three other students remained on the canal bank and shouted for help from the locals who later called the police.

The police personnel and other officials rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. The divers resorted to search operation at the canal.

The police are conducting a search operation as the bodies are yet to recovered.

The BSE Sensex reached 82,189.42 after rising 216.37 points or 0.26 per cent in early trade. At the same time, NSE Nifty was trading at 25,189.25 after gaining 61.30 points or 0.24 per cent.

The market trend remained positive. On the NSE, 1,323 stocks were trading well, while 721 stocks were in the red.

On the BSE, 1,689 stocks were trading in the green and 852 stocks were in the red in the morning trade.

Nifty Bank was at 51,976.60 after rising 159.70 points or 0.31 per cent. The Nifty Midcap index was trading at 51, 976.60 level after gaining 79.00 points or 0.13 per cent. At the same time, the Nifty 100 index was at 26,266.50 after gaining 68.60 points or 0.26 per cent.

Infosys, HCL Tech, Bharti Airtel and Asian Paints were the top gainers in the Sensex pack. Nestle, Tata Steel, M&M and JSW were the top losers.

Meanwhile, BPCL, Infosys, Bharti Airtel and HCL Tech were the top gainers in the Nifty pack. At the same time, ONGC, Nestle and Tata Steel were the top losers.

According to market experts, going into the Q2 results season, the market has been expecting good numbers from IT and banking.

"HCL Tech’s good results confirm the optimistic expectations and the banking results, particularly from the leading private banks, also are likely to be good. Unlike IT stocks where there is only limited valuation comfort, the banking stocks offer decent valuation comfort and, therefore, have the potential to move up from the present levels," the analysts said.

Asian markets are witnessing a boom. Except for Hong Kong, the markets of Tokyo, Bangkok, Jakarta and Seoul are trading in the green. The US stock markets closed in the green on the previous trading day.
