Weather Alert / Odisha Endures Extreme Heat, Mercury Levels Likely to Touch 45°C in Coming Days

Bhubaneswar, Apr 16: Odisha is reeling under an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring dangerously high across western and interior regions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Titilagarh, Balangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda could see mercury levels touch 45°C in the coming days.
Other districts such as Bargarh, Rourkela, Angul, Bhawanipatna, and Boudh are expected to experience temperatures around 43°C, making daily life increasingly difficult.
According to IMD forecasts, the heatwave conditions are likely to persist until April 19. On April 16, coastal Odisha is expected to face unbearable heat and humidity, while northern and southern parts may witness thunderstorms and rainfall due to the influence of Kalbaisakhi.

✨Districts including Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Ganjam, and Gajapati could see rain accompanied by lightning. By April 17, heatwave conditions will intensify in Balangir, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Sonepur, with hot winds disrupting normal life.
On April 18 and 19, western Odisha will continue to face severe heatwave conditions, while Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, and Malkangiri may receive rainfall with thunderstorms.
Titilagarh has already recorded a maximum of 42°C, Bhawanipatna 41.8°C, Jharsuguda 41.6°C, and several other districts hovering around 40-41°C.
The heatwave is not limited to Odisha. Across India, rising temperatures have unsettled citizens. Delhi-NCR has recorded 38-40°C, while northern states are bracing for a shift in weather.
The IMD has forecast rain and thunderstorms in Jammu &
Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. Light to moderate
rainfall, snowfall in higher altitudes, and strong winds are expected in these
regions. Alerts have been issued for Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal
Pradesh due to possible hailstorms and heavy showers.
