Nabarangpur, Mar 22: A youth sustained bullet injuries after being shot by drunken youth. The incident took place at Kusumbahal village under Choklapadar Gram Panchayat, Jharigaon police station limits, Nabarangpur.
According to reports, the accused, identified as Bisam Sabar of Ekambapada village, arrived in Kusumbahal in the evening and consumed liquor before creating a disturbance in the locality. Villagers, including Pandu Jani and his relatives, attempted to pacify him and escorted him back to his house. However, Sabar, enraged and intoxicated, returned with a country-made firearm and fired at Pandu Jani, hitting him in the lower back.
Eyewitnesses stated that three bullets struck Pandu, causing severe bleeding. He was immediately rushed to Jharigaon hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital for advanced treatment.
On being informed, Jharigaon police led by Inspector-in-Charge Rachita Madakam reached the spot, detained the accused, and initiated interrogation. The police have seized the weapon used in the attack and are investigating the circumstances that led to the violent outburst.

The incident has sparked concern among villagers about the rising menace of alcohol-related violence in rural areas. Authorities have assured strict action against the accused and measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
