Mayurbhanj, Apr 2: A youth was axed to death following a minor argument in Gohalamunda village under Jharpokharia police station limits in Mayurbhanj district.
The deceased has been identified as Amrit Mahant, a resident of Gohalamunda village.
According to reports, the incident occurred when a quarrel broke out between the victim and another youth over a trivial matter. The situation turned ugly when one of them attacked the other with an axe, striking him with severe blows.
Following the incident, Amrit sustained critical injuries. He was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital for emergency treatment. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to the district headquarters hospital in Baripada. Despite the efforts of medical staff, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Later, police reached the scene promptly and initiated a thorough investigation.
