Malkangiri, Sep 24: Police on Wednesday arrested three persons including a woman constable on charges of abducting and looting a businessman under the guise of law enforcement. The incident has been reported from Malkangiri district.
The accused persons- Basanti Biswas, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the incident, Sultan Singh from Balimela, and Raju Sheikh from Joyrampur village in West Bengal, have been apprehended in connection with the case.
According to reports, Sultan and Raju lured businessman Raghu Narasingh from Kadapa Ramachandrapur village under Srirampur police limits in Karnataka to Malkangiri with promises of high profits in local business ventures.
Raghu, who had previously known a local contact named Shiba, arrived in Malkangiri and was introduced to Sultan and Raju.
Initially hosted at a private hotel for business discussions, Raghu was later taken to a forest near MV-17 village, where he was assaulted by the accused. They forcibly obtained his mobile phone and extracted Rs 82,000 via PhonePe App after coercing him to reveal his password.

✨Unsatisfied, the accused moved Raghu to another hotel, where Basanti Biswas joined them. Posing as a police officer, she threatened him further. Eventually, Raghu was taken to a house in MV-14 village, where the group demanded Rs 3 lakh for his release.
