Angul, Apr 22: At least two persons sustained critical injuries after two unidentified men opened fire during a wedding procession. The shocking incident took place in Belapunji village under Athmallik police station in Angul district.

According to reports, a wedding party had arrived from Boudh district. The groom along with their guests were moving towards Belapunji when suddenly, two men, carrying gun arrived at the scene and allegedly opened fire targeting the groom.

While the groom escaped the bullet shots, it struck two of the guests.

Both victims were immediately rescued and rushed to Boudh hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, the members attempted to overpower the attackers. While one of the accused managed to flee from the scene, the other was caught by locals, who thrashed him before handing him over to the Athmallik police.

Upon receiving the information, police rushed to the spot and detained the accused, who is currently being interrogated.

Authorities are trying to ascertain the motive behind the attack, including whether there was any prior rivalry with the groom. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding suspect, with police conducting raids at multiple localities.
