Jajpur, Jan 31: In a major crackdown on corruption, the Odisha Vigilance Department on Saturday caught Badachana Block Veterinary Officer Subhasis Samal while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.
According to reports, Samal had demanded the bribe from a beneficiary in exchange for facilitating the release of poultry farming subsidy funds. Following this, the victim approached the anti-corruption wing and lodged a complaint.
Acting on a complaint, vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught the officer red-handed while receiving the money.
Following the arrest, vigilance teams have launched simultaneous raids at multiple locations linked to Samal to investigate allegations of disproportionate assets.
Preliminary reports suggest that the officer may have amassed wealth beyond his known sources of income.
