Tusker Dies After Being Hit By Train In Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Mayurbhanj, Nov 2: In a tragic incident, a tusker lost its life after being struck by the Shalimar–Puri Express near Jugala Station in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday night.

According to reports, the accident occurred close to the Betanoti-Agria railway crossing when the elephant was attempting to cross the railway tracks.

Eyewitnesses reported that the train was moving at high speed and could not halt in time, resulting in a fatal collision with the animal.

Forest officials and railway authorities rushed to the site following the incident. The carcass of the elephant was later removed from the tracks, and train services were briefly disrupted.

This incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of wildlife in areas where railway lines intersect with forest corridors.

Mayurbhanj, known for its rich biodiversity and elephant population, has witnessed similar accidents in the past.

Authorities are expected to conduct a joint investigation to assess the circumstances and explore preventive measures, such as early warning systems and speed restrictions in vulnerable zones.
