Mayurbhanj, Nov 2: In a tragic incident, a tusker lost its life after being struck by the Shalimar–Puri Express near Jugala Station in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday night.
According to reports, the accident occurred close to the Betanoti-Agria railway crossing when the elephant was attempting to cross the railway tracks.
Eyewitnesses reported that the train was moving at high speed and could not halt in time, resulting in a fatal collision with the animal.
Forest officials and railway authorities rushed to the site following the incident. The carcass of the elephant was later removed from the tracks, and train services were briefly disrupted.
