Sonepur, Nov 2: A truck carrying gas cylinders caught fire near Jatesingha on the Sonepur–Rairakhol road in Subarnapur district, triggering panic among locals and commuters.

The blaze, which erupted suddenly, sent plumes of smoke into the sky and posed a serious threat due to the highly flammable cargo.

On being informed, fire officials from Birmaharajpur rushed to the scene and managed to bring the situation under control after a tense firefighting operation.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing loud explosions as the fire engulfed the vehicle, prompting authorities to cordon off the area and halt traffic along the route.

No casualties was reported, though damage to property and infrastructure is being assessed. Local police and fire officials have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and assess whether safety protocols were violated during the transport of hazardous materials.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of transporting gas cylinders through densely populated or poorly monitored routes.
