Minor Among Six Critically Injured In Nayagarh Blast

Nayagarh, Apr 4: Six people, including a minor, sustained critical injuries in a powerful explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit at Korada village under Nuagaon police station limits in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Friday.

Explosion During Firecracker Preparation
According to preliminary reports, the blast occurred while firecrackers were being prepared for the upcoming Lankapodi festival scheduled on April 7. The impact of the explosion was severe, destroying firecrackers and raw materials stored nearby.

Victims Undergoing Treatment
Police and fire services personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the injured, who were immediately shifted to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital.

The injured were identified as Amit Sethi (15), Bapuni Nahak (40) of Korada village, Manoj Nayak (38), Bapi Nayak (35), unit owner Hadibandhu Sethi (60), and Naba Sethi (35) of Minagadia village.

Nuagaon police station officer Rashmiranjan Sahu said an investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion and verify the legality of the firecracker unit.

8 Fake CID Officers Arrested In Bhubaneswar
Meanwhile, Chandrasekharpur Police in Bhubaneswar arrested eight persons, including four women, for allegedly impersonating Crime Investigation Department (CID) officers and extorting money from educational institutions and businesses.

Modus Operandi Exposed
According to police, the accused posed as CID officials and conducted fake “inspections” at schools, colleges and coaching centres. They allegedly threatened management by citing irregularities and demanded money to avoid legal action.

The group also targeted business establishments, coercing owners into paying large sums under the guise of official enforcement.

Caught During Extortion Attempt
Their activities came to light when they attempted to extort money outside a private educational institution in Chandrasekharpur, following which police intervened and apprehended the accused.

Police said further investigation is underway to identify possible links, past victims, and the extent of the racket.
