Key Points

The action comes in connection with a Rs 18 crore penalty imposed by the National Green Tribunal for illegal sand mining from the Budhabalanga River in the Badasahi tehsil area.
Mayurbhanj, Nov 20: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted simultaneous raids in Dahisahi village under Baishinga police limits, targeting the residence and liquor unit of one Pradeep Bindhani.

The action comes in connection with a Rs 18 crore penalty imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for illegal sand mining from the Budhabalanga River in the Badasahi tehsil area.

Bindhani had allegedly failed to comply with the penalty, prompting the ED to initiate proceedings under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

A team of over 20 ED officials from Bhubaneswar descended on the region early Thursday morning and raided the residence of Bindhani, as well as a local country liquor unit allegedly linked to him.

The operation was conducted under tight security provided by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Sources indicate that Bindhani is being interrogated on-site regarding financial irregularities and possible laundering of proceeds from illegal sand mining.

The ED is also examining property records, financial documents, and business transactions tied to the accused. The raids are ongoing, and further details are awaited as the investigation unfolds.
