Sambalpur, Mar 23: Acting on the instructions of the district Superintendent of Police (SP), police teams carried out surprise raids early this morning at three jails in Sambalpur district.
According to reports, the raids were conducted in Sambalpur Circle Jail, Kuchinda Sub-Jail, and Rairakhol Sub-Jail.
The operation began at 5 a.m. and continued for nearly two hours. The raids were conducted amid suspicions that narcotics, mobile phones, and other contraband items were being smuggled into the prisons.
At Sambalpur Circle Jail, the raid was supervised by the Sub-Collector, two Additional SPs, the SDPO, eight Inspectors, 18 Sub-Inspectors, and a full platoon of police force.
Similar teams, including the Sub-Collector, SDPO, Inspectors, and platoons of police, carried out raids at Kuchinda and Rairakhol jails.

All wards, cells, latrines, and surrounding areas were thoroughly searched.
Despite the intensive search, police reported that no objectionable or illegal items were recovered. Authorities confirmed that the raids were precautionary, aimed at ensuring prison discipline and curbing the possible circulation of contraband.
