Bargarh, Dec 24: The iconic Dhanu Yatra, the world’s biggest open‑air theatre, began today in Odisha’s Bargarh.
The 11-day extravaganza transforms the town into a mythological stage, recreating episodes from the life of Lord Krishna.
During the festival, Bargarh takes on the role of Mathura, while Ambapalli becomes Gopapur. The Jira River flowing between them symbolizes the Yamuna, setting the stage for dramatic enactments of Krishna’s childhood pastimes and the reign of King Kansa. The festivities began with a grand cultural procession at 2
PM, showcasing traditional music, dance, and colorful displays. Later in the
evening, the official inauguration of the Dhanu Yatra will take place at the
Raj Darbar in Hatpada, where King Kansa’s court will be recreated.
