Mayurbhanj, Apr 22: A stray dog named Kali has captured the hearts of an entire village after her fearless act of protecting schoolchildren from a venomous snake. Her selfless bravery turned her into a local legend, remembered not just as a stray, but as a guardian angel who gave her life to save others.

The incident occurred in a small village of Mayurbhanj district, where over 30 kindergarten students of Sri Jagannath Sishu Vidya Mandir were seated outside their school. Meanwhile, a venomous snake slithered dangerously close to them.

Sensing the imminent danger, Kali leapt into action. Without hesitation, she intercepted the snake before it could reach the children. What followed was a fierce and desperate struggle. Despite being struck multiple times by the snake, Kali refused to retreat. Her determination paid off—she managed to kill the snake, ensuring that every child remained safe.

Tragically, Kali was bitten on the mouth during the fight and later succumbed to the venom. Her death left the entire village heartbroken. Loved and cherished by the community, Kali was honoured with a ceremonial farewell. Her body was placed on a trolley, adorned with flowers, and covered in a white cloth. Villagers carried her in a solemn procession before laying her to rest.

“Kali saved our children,” villagers said with tears in their eyes. “She will remain immortal in our hearts.” For the people of Mayurbhanj, Kali is no longer just a stray dog—she is a guardian angel whose bravery will be remembered for generations.
