Bhubaneswar, Sep 25: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued heavy to very heavy rainfall alert across Odisha as two consecutive low-pressure systems form over the Bay of Bengal.
According to IMD's latest bulletin, a system is already active over the northwestern Bay, while another cyclonic circulation has developed today. The System is expected to evolve into a low-pressure area and intensify further by tomorrow.
The twin systems are likely to bring intense rainfall for the next four days across the state, said the IMD.
While Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada districts have been placed under Orange Alert for extremely heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours, all other districts are under Yellow Alert, indicating moderate to heavy showers.
Following the alert, the fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea between September 24 and 28, as rough conditions are expected.
The ongoing festive season, including Dussehra celebrations, may be dampened by the anticipated downpour.
What Do the Alerts Mean?
- Yellow Alert: Indicates potentially disruptive weather. While not immediately dangerous, it may affect daily activities and cause localised flooding.
- Orange Alert: Signals severe weather conditions that could significantly impact life, property, and operations. Residents in affected areas should prepare accordingly.
