Cuttack, Feb 4: Odisha Police safely traced and rescued 5,451 missing persons during a statewide drive conducted under “Operation Anweshan-2,” officials said.
The operation was carried out across the state from January 21 to January 30, 2026, following directions from Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania. All district police units, urban police districts and the Railway Protection Police participated in the coordinated effort.
According to police data, those rescued included 77 minor boys, 709 minor girls and 4,665 women. Officials said the primary objective of the operation was to trace missing children and women who had been separated from their families, ensure their safety and facilitate their reunion with family members, along with providing necessary support.
Puri district reported the highest number of rescues, with 613 missing persons traced. Cuttack district followed with 501 recoveries, while Bhadrak district accounted for 429. Ganjam district recorded 413 rescues, Kendrapada 346, Jajpur 271, Bargarh 236, Angul 210, Dhenkanal 206 and Jagatsinghpur 177.
Nuapada district reported 173 rescues, Berhampur urban police district 170, Keonjhar 161, Sundargarh 135, Cuttack Urban Police District 134, Kalahandi 133, Nayagarh 127, Balasore 125 and Mayurbhanj 119, officials said.

Police said the success of the operation was made possible through coordinated action among district police units, urban police, and railway police, including field verification, tracking of missing person records and inter-district coordination.
DGP Khurania commended officers and personnel involved in the operation for their efforts. He said similar operations would continue to be intensified in the future to strengthen measures for the safety, tracing and rescue of missing children and women across the state.
