Viksit Odisha / Odisha Govt Approves Bhubaneswar–Cuttack–Puri–Paradip Economic Region

Bhubaneswar, Aug 3: The Odisha government approved the ambitious Bhubaneswar–Cuttack–Puri–Paradip City Economic Region (BKPPECR), a Rs 5,000 crore project aimed at transforming four major urban centres into a globally competitive economic corridor, officials said on Monday.

According to the official sources, the project will be funded through a mix of Rs3,500 crore loan assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Rs1,500 crore support under the Centre’s City Economic Region (CER) scheme. The initiative is one of four pilot economic regions selected under the CER framework.

Covering 19 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across Khordha, Cuttack, Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts, the BKPPECR seeks to integrate the four cities into a single economic geography. The plan envisions smart, climate-resilient urban infrastructure, integrated regional mobility systems, and multimodal transport hubs to strengthen connectivity.

The project also includes housing facilities for professionals, development of New Bhubaneswar City, and expansion of public transport networks. Urban redevelopment, riverfront rejuvenation, port-based industries, knowledge hubs and healthcare clusters are part of the blueprint.

Officials said the corridor will serve as a catalyst for industrial growth, tourism, logistics and employment generation, aligning with Odisha Vision 2036 and Vision 2047. The government expects the initiative to attract significant private investment and create large-scale job opportunities.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi described the approval as a “milestone in Odisha’s development journey,” adding that the corridor would “position the state as a hub of industry, innovation and sustainable urban growth.”
