Cuttack, August 3: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday inaugurated the Jagadguru Kripalu University in Cuttack, describing Odisha as a land enriched with knowledge, culture, spirituality and service, officials said.

Speaking on the occasion, the President said the sacred land of Lord Jagannath has long spread the message of inclusivity, compassion and human welfare.

The President highlighted Cuttack’s illustrious legacy, recalling the contributions of Madhusudan Das, Gauri Shankar Ray, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Biju Patnaik, Pandit Gopabandhu Das and Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab. She noted that the new university, established in such a region, would integrate India’s ancient traditions with modern education to serve society and the nation.

President Murmu emphasized that India’s young population is its greatest asset and urged universities to provide value-based education that nurtures integrity, discipline, sensitivity and national commitment. She said knowledge becomes truly meaningful only when used for humanity, society and national progress.

The President underlined the role of higher education institutions in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047. She called on universities to function as centres of knowledge where ideas and technologies address societal needs, while students remain rooted in ethical values.

President Murmu expressed satisfaction that Jagadguru Kripalu University will foster research, innovation and entrepreneurship alongside cultural and spiritual growth. The institution, she said, will produce skilled manpower, researchers and entrepreneurs contributing to a Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat.

The President arrived in Bhubaneswar earlier in the day on a three-day visit to Odisha. She will attend programmes in Cuttack and Ganjam districts before returning to New Delhi on August 5.
