Bhubaneswar, Jan 25: Eminent Odia music director Abhijit Majumdar, widely regarded as one of the most prolific contributors to the Odia film industry, passed away at AIIMS Bhubaneswar this morning. He was 54.


Majumdar had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar in recent months following severe health complications.


He was admitted to the hospital in September 2025 after slipping into a coma. Doctors placed him on ventilator support following complications related to pneumonia and chronic health conditions, including hypertension and liver disease.


In November, hospital authorities reported that Majumdar had been taken off ventilator support and shifted out of the ICU, though his neurological condition showed little improvement. His vitals were stable, but he remained under close medical observation. However, he passed away this morning.

Known for his melodious compositions and ability to blend traditional Odia music with contemporary styles, Majumdar’s career spanned over two decades. He composed music for hundreds of Odia films and albums, creating chart-topping hits that resonated with audiences across generations. His work earned him recognition as one of the most successful and beloved music directors in Odisha.
