The uncertainty arose due to the Amavasya Tithi—the lunar phase on which Diwali is traditionally observed—spanning both October 20 and 21 this year.
However, astrologers and religious scholars have confirmed that Lakshmi Puja, the central ritual of Diwali, aligns best with Pradosh Kaal and Vrishabha Kaal on the evening of October 20, making it the most auspicious time for celebration.
Therefore, Diwali should ideally be celebrated on October 20.

Likewise, the most auspicious time for Lakshmi Puja falls on October 20 between 7:08 PM and 8:18 PM, which coincides with the Pradosh Kaal, observed from 5:46 PM to 8:18 PM on the same day.
The Vrishabha Kaal on October 20, 2025, begins at 7:08 PM and ends at 9:03 PM, making it an ideal window for performing Lakshmi Puja during Diwali. This period overlaps with the auspicious Pradosh Kaal, enhancing the spiritual significance of the rituals.
