An Odisha Civil Services preliminary examination candidate, Abinash Rout, was allegedly caught using a mobile phone and earphone concealed in his undergarments to cheat at a Cuttack exam centre.
Cuttack, Jun 8: A candidate appearing for the Odisha Civil Services (OCS) Preliminary Examination was caught allegedly using electronic devices to cheat during the test at an examination centre in Cuttack, leading to the arrest of four persons, including the aspirant.

The incident was reported from a private engineering college in the CDA area of Cuttack, where the OCS preliminary examination was being conducted on Sunday under strict surveillance.

Candidate Used Mobile, Earphone
According to a source, the accused candidate, identified as Abinash Rout, allegedly concealed a mobile phone and an earphone inside his undergarments and used them while writing the examination.

During a routine inspection, members of the flying squad reportedly noticed suspicious activity and intercepted the candidate. On checking, they allegedly recovered the electronic devices being used inside the examination hall.

Answers Allegedly Supplied From Outside
Preliminary investigation suggests that the candidate was allegedly communicating with associates outside the examination centre.

The source said Abinash was reportedly sharing questions over the phone and receiving answers through the hidden earphone while taking the examination. The suspected malpractice came to light when squad members detected the unauthorised communication during the exam.

OPSC Files Complaint
Following the incident, officials of the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) lodged a formal complaint at Markatnagar Police Station.

Subsequently, Markatnagar Police registered a case against the candidate under the Odisha Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, as well as Section 318 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for alleged cheating.

Acting on the complaint, police arrested the candidate along with three persons allegedly involved in assisting him during the examination.

Police have begun an investigation to determine the extent of the alleged cheating operation, including how the devices were smuggled into the examination hall and whether any larger network was involved.
