Key Points

A 5-and-a-half-year-old boy, Dibya Ranjan Mallik, is battling for life in the ICU of Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack after his family alleged he was deliberately poisoned over a property dispute.
Cuttack, Jun 8: A 5-and-a-half-year-old boy from Bahabalpur village under Salepur police station limits in Cuttack district is battling for life at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (Sishu Bhawan) after his family alleged that he was deliberately poisoned over a property dispute, a source said on Monday.

The child, identified as Dibya Ranjan Mallik, son of Ajay Mallik, is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the state-run paediatric hospital in Cuttack.

Child Fell Ill After Consuming Sweets
According to family members, the incident allegedly took place on May 22 when Dibya was offered sweets by people from a neighbouring relative's family.

Soon after returning home, the child reportedly developed severe health complications and began vomiting blue-coloured fluid, along with suffering from diarrhoea. He was initially taken to a hospital in Salepur for treatment.

However, as his condition deteriorated the following day, family members shifted him to Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack, where doctors admitted him for specialised treatment.

Poisoning Suspected During Treatment
While undergoing treatment, doctors reportedly suspected that the child might have consumed a poisonous substance, prompting concern among family members.

Following the medical observations, the family lodged a complaint at Salepur Police Station, alleging that the child had been intentionally poisoned.

The complaint names neighbours with whom the family allegedly has a long-running dispute over ancestral property.

Family Alleges Previous Attacks
Dibya's father, Ajay Mallik, alleged that tensions over property had existed for a long time and claimed that he had faced attacks and harassment on earlier occasions as well.

He accused the concerned persons of attempting to eliminate his son by administering poison through food and demanded strict action against all those allegedly involved.

Police registered the complaint and launched an investigation into the allegations.
