Bhubaneswar, Dec 19: Heavy fog across North India has disrupted air travel, causing diversions, cancellations, and delays. A Mumbai–Varanasi flight was unable to land at Varanasi airport due to poor visibility and was diverted to Bhubaneswar this morning.
Authorities confirmed that the aircraft will continue its journey to Varanasi once weather conditions improve.
Meanwhile, two flights from Delhi to Bhubaneswar—one operated by Air India and another by IndiGo—were cancelled due to the dense fog.

Civil Aviation authorities have issued advisories urging
passengers to check flight status before heading to airports, as further
disruptions are expected if fog persists. Airlines have also been instructed to
provide timely updates and assistance to stranded passengers.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that dense fog conditions are likely to continue in several northern states over the next 48 hours, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, and Punjab.
Visibility in some areas has dropped to less than 50 meters, making safe landings and take-offs extremely challenging.
Airport officials in Bhubaneswar emphasised that contingency measures are in place, including coordination with airlines, deployment of additional staff, and arrangements for passenger comfort.
