Malkangiri, Nov 18: A hardcore Maoist was killed following an encounter between the security forces and red rebels near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border this morning.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed.
According to reports, security personnel, based on reliable inputs, launched a combing operation in the dense Erabor forest, located in Sukma district, close to the Podia police station limits of Malkangiri district.
During the operation, Maoist insurgents opened fire on the personnel, prompting retaliatory action. In the ensuing exchange, one Maoist was reportedly neutralized by the security forces.
As per initial reports, the gunfight remains active, with both sides continuing to exchange fire.
