Argus News - Maoist Killed In Encounter With Security Forces On Odisha-Chhattisgarh Border

Malkangiri, Nov 18: A hardcore Maoist was killed following an encounter between the security forces and red rebels near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border this morning.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed.

According to reports, security personnel, based on reliable inputs, launched a combing operation in the dense Erabor forest, located in Sukma district, close to the Podia police station limits of Malkangiri district.

During the operation, Maoist insurgents opened fire on the personnel, prompting retaliatory action. In the ensuing exchange, one Maoist was reportedly neutralized by the security forces.

As per initial reports, the gunfight remains active, with both sides continuing to exchange fire.

Additional forces have been deployed to the area, and a high alert has been issued along the border.

The Erabor forest region, which lies along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, has long been a Maoist stronghold and is considered part of the Red Corridor.

Sukma, in particular, remains one of the most affected districts in the Maoist insurgency landscape, often witnessing such high-risk operations.

Senior officials from both states are monitoring the situation closely. Further details, including the recovery of arms or identification of the Maoist cadre, are awaited as the operation progresses.
