Bhubaneswar, Apr 17: In a significant move to strengthen the safety of medical professionals, the Odisha state government has announced new measures to ensure enhanced security across medical institutions.

According to the decision, security officers will be appointed in all 14 medical colleges of the state. These officers will be of senior rank, such as Additional SP, DSP, or Deputy Commandant, ensuring that law enforcement presence is strong and effective within the campuses.

For district headquarters hospitals, the responsibility of security will be entrusted to officers of Inspector rank.

This step is aimed at providing immediate response capability and maintaining discipline in high-pressure medical environments where incidents of violence against doctors have been reported in the past.

Additionally, the government has decided that independent outposts will be established in every medical college. This will allow for round-the-clock monitoring and quick intervention in case of emergencies, thereby creating a safer environment for doctors, staff, and patients.

Officials stated that the decision comes in response to growing concerns over attacks and harassment faced by doctors during duty hours. By deploying senior police officers and setting up dedicated outposts, the government hopes to deter such incidents and reassure the medical community of its commitment to their protection.
