Odisha journalists visited IIAS Shimla, learning about its historic Viceregal Lodge architecture and research legacy, while also receiving insights into NHAI’s highway projects and sustainability initiatives in Himachal Pradesh.

Shimla, Mar 24: A delegation of senior journalists from Odisha immersed themselves in the rich history and architectural grandeur of the iconic Viceregal Lodge during their tour of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS). The tour was a part of their exposure visit to Himachal Pradesh.

Constructed between 1884 and 1888 under the supervision of architect Henry Irwin, the building exemplifies Scottish Baronial style with touches of English Renaissance design.

Once the summer seat of British governance from 1888 to 1947, it later served as the President’s summer retreat before being inaugurated as IIAS on October 20, 1965, by Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

The visit offered the delegation a deeper appreciation of the institute’s legacy as a hub of scholarship and cultural heritage. The delegation noted how IIAS continues to blend history with modern academic pursuits, making it a unique institution in the country.

In addition to the IIAS tour, the delegation attended a briefing by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the ambitious four-laning of the Kiratpur-Manali section of NH-21.
